Telling stories

Postcards that travel show the journey they have been on. Torn paper, shabby corners, smeared marks and flaking paint.

Some could experience this as a problem.
For me, I see the beauty in them.
They tell a story, and every one of them is unique.

Every postcard that travelled tells its own story.

The story of a person who took the time to put down on paper what moves them and decided to share it with others.

I wonder how many hands the postcard has passed through? How many people it invited to pause for a moment?

It reminds me of how, in everyday life too, everybody comes across times at some point when they feel damaged, torn, marked or split. These times should not be neglected.

They are part of our own story.
Part of our individual and collective aliveness.

Expressing ourselves

To me it seems like it doesn't matter so much how you express yourself but rather that you do - in whichever form is possible for you.

People choose eye contact, gestures, touch, speech, drawing, writing, singing... there is not the only one right way. There are so many forms and possibilities. We all find our own ways of expressing ourselves and I am convinced that by making new experiences we continue to grow and develop our ways accordingly to what is needed in reality.

I was deeply touched by an answer of a friend's friend who doesn't express himself via speech. When they asked him about what makes him feel alive he came up with an unexpected answer. He found an expression that is not very common for him and surprised them with his signs on the postcard.

Top known reasons for not returning the card

-Take this with a grain of salt. I am not being entirely serious.-

  1. I will wait until I find the one and only perfect answer.
  2. It's so pretty. I want to keep it.
  3. I don't have a stamp.
  4. I can also post it tomorrow.
  5. I don't understand the question.
  6. Isn't that too intimate?
  7. I'll keep it on my mirror as a reminder.
  8. To be extended.

Very popular approach: Enthusiastically receiving, postponing and then forgetting about it.

What does it mean?

I remember my teacher saying “Guys, I know your minds like complexity. But please, think simple.”

"What do you mean, simple?” asked the mind.

It is the word alive that confuses or even unsettles people sometimes. It seems too abstract, too philosophical, too open, too vague — whereas, in my perception, it contains everything that wants to be expressed.

Intriguing, isn’t it? How a seemingly easy question for somebody turns out to be a complex question for somebody else. Both realities are equally valid. The different experiences open the opportunity to meet one another.

I’ve been talking with quite an amount of people about the project. Sometimes the conversation ends with thoughtful expressions. Other times it ends with enthusiastic exchanges, loud laughter, and warm embraces.
